When I was hired as a technical writer at the BYU Office of IT, my first task was to gather several existing documents from around the organization and organize them into a single style guide. Several months later, my manager asked me to give a presentation explaining what style guides are and highlighting several important style guide items.
I gave my presentation to the BYU Office of IT User Experience Team. In attendance were 22 technical writers, trainers, and UX designers. The main points I wanted to make clear were that style guides are important, and that if anyone had questions they should come to the technical writers.
Below are the complete slides from my presentation.
