As part of my substantive and genre editing class, I reached out to an author and asked them for writing that I could edit for them. The author I received a piece from had interviewed family members about their relationships and wanted to publish the article for her family and future generations to read and learn from.
I was asked by the author to copy edit and do substantive edits. She noted that she needed help with copyediting and improving the flow of the manuscript to fit her purpose better.
